This is the fourth anniversary of our trial run on radio at WUTC. We will be celebrating that and celebrating Women's Voices with an all female cast:
Co-host Corrie Lynn White is a poet from North Carolina. Her work has appeared in Best New Poets (2013), New Ohio Review, Mississippi Review, and The Greensboro Review. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from UNC Greensboro and currently teaches high school English in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Corrie also co-founded the blog www.femalefriendship.net. which publishes stories and interviews about the power and complexity of female friendships.
Heatherly is the moniker used to describe the music coming from Heather Leigh Holt. She was born and raised in Atlanta, Ga. She moved to Chattanooga after graduating from the University of Georgia . There, she studied Music Education with a focus of Percussion. Heather taught music in Hamilton county for nine years before resigning to work for Ted and Kelly Alling. She loves to play any kind of music and attend Open Mics whenever she can. She started a podcast called Open Mic Spotlight which focuses on a different Chattanooga artist every week. In the past six months, she has acquired three new band member which make up her band, Heatherly. She is recording an album and playing her indie folk tunes around Chattanooga whenever she can.
Jana Michelson sings southern Appalachian ballads, songs of love and loss from the hollows of yesteryear. Her voice, described as "sweet as honey and honest as sin", echoes a simpler time and place. Influenced by voices like Hazel Dickens and Iris Dement, Jana belts out an old-time sound with a voice distilled from the hills of Tennessee.
Brynija Loyd – Our young voice this month; Brynija is a 10th grader at Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy, one of the first charter all girls schools in Tennessee. She has been writing poetry since the age of 7, her biggest inspiration has been the poet Erin Hanson (e.h) and her mom Nichole Priest.
